The nature of things.. Rats are the bottom of the food chain.

My male albino Redtail Boa Constrictor, "Stoli".

Prints now available!

Edit 10-12-07:

I would just like to state that yes, this is a very raw image to some, but it is just nature. Snakes must eat, and thats a fact of life. They eat mammals, usually mice or rats.

I will also state that all of my snakes are fed what is known as "Frozen Thawed" prey items. The prey items(rats/mice) were humanely euthanized by the breeder/supplier using C02 gas, which essentially causes the rodent to peacefully pass out and causes no pain. They are then frozen and sent out to people such as myself who keep animals needing their sustenance. There is no great bloody battle or ruthless killing. The snake is handed the thawed out and warmed up rat, and it eats. That just how it goes.

For the rest of you who post positive comments, I very much appreciate them, thank you for your kindness.

Always fun to watch. Thats my favourite part of the week. I've only got three of these guys, though (not albino, I wish).

Nice shot

I've always thought it was cool how they can detach their jaws like that and swallow rats.

Creepy, yet beautiful, and brilliantly executed. ^_^

If you can love, you can be loved.
They actually don't "detach" their jaws. They actually just sort of separate in front, and are very flexible.

Ah... I see... I don't have one of these beautiful animals so... I guess I'd only see it as detatching. =)

It'd be cool if humans could do that... and a little creepy... o_O

I wonder how the rat sees it?

Art without pretense
Well, the rat had probably been dead for months prior, so I doubt it has any awareness of the situation ;)

(All of my snakes are fed previously killed, frozen, then thawed prey)
