Artist's Comments

I finally got my tattoo finished. Its based off work by Brian Froud, who did all of the concept art and design for the movie, The Dark Crystal. Which has always been one of my favorites.

Thanks.. I think he did a pretty decent job. He did it for a fair price as well. Ended up only asking for like 50% of what he charges. Would of been 350 if he stuck to his 100 an hour charge. Ended up paying him 170(150 plus tip). He, and his entire shop for that matter, was swamped with people all weekend. I ended up having my appointment shoved back a day, then the day I was told to come back, he was unsure he could get me in somewhere. He felt pretty bad. But someone flaked so I was able to get in there. Plus he initially thought it would only take like an hour. And the shading like 10 minutes. But then he got to doing it and was like "god damn. I feel like i'm back in high school geometry again". lol. Took him closer to 3.5 hours. haha. He's a good guy though. Very popular artist. His entire shop is covered wall to wall with awards won for his work at various ink cons. He's generally a portrait artist. One of those people who does black and white shaded works that are mind bogglingly good.

Goodness - sounds like a wonderful artist! He wouldn't happen to be located in the Washington DC area would he? Lol I'm looking to get a back piece done, and that is GORGEOUS!
I recognised it as DCrystal right away - wonderful design to choose! Congrats on having such wonderful ink done! ^^

They definitely have that faded ancient look down. Bravo for resourcing such a fantastic movie with the best conceptual art!!

The image in question is the Master Time Spiral, and its own meaning is actually pretty neutral. The urRu sand paintings are based off of it for purposes of divination. Every painting, of course, comes out differently depending on what needs foretold and what the results are, but they are all based on this single core image, which represents a span of approximately three thousand years, or the length of time the urSkeks were on the planet in whatever form, as one can see by the underlying elongated isosceles base, and the chain of three interconnected spiral symbols near the end, indicating three Great Conjunctions--the first when they arrived, the second when the Division occurred, and the third when they would either reunite and depart or the darkness of the world become permanent.

Hope that helps. :3
